Judges at the Superior Court of San Benito Accept Statewide Outreach Challenge to Celebrate America250

Hollister, CA: Teachers in San Benito County interested in bringing civics to their K-12 classrooms this school year are invited to connect with the Superior Court of California, County of San Benito. As California marks the nation's 250th anniversary, judges are getting ready for an outreach challenge sponsored by Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero's Power of Democracy Civic Learning Initiative (POD).

Beginning in August, Presiding Judge J. Omar Rodriguez pledges to connect with at least 250 K–12 students by the end of 2026. To help judges meet the challenge, the court is placing emphasis on the month of September when the judicial branch celebrates Constitution Month. Judges are available for classroom visits that focus on age-appropriate discussions about constitutional rights and Q&A sessions where students can learn firsthand about a judge's role. Teachers interested in scheduling a courthouse tour or mock trial are also encouraged to contact the court.

With California Courts' annual Constitution Month commemoration approaching in September, the Superior Court of San Benito is confident the Challenge will be met. Teachers are encouraged to submit their requests early by visiting www.sanbenito.courts.ca.gov/outreach. The Challenge is supported by the Power of Democracy’s Judges in the Classroom program.
